Trying to get good framing for your art?

If you're trying to get god frames for your art, here are a few tips on how you can go about it.

1) Locate a framer close to where you are.
This will ensure that the delivery of your works to and from his place will be quick and easier than carting it all the way across town. Also, for artworks framed in glass, the glass may break if the vehicle jerks while driving.
2) Make sure the framer has samples of frames you can place on your work to choose the colour and moulding you want. Samples come in small pieces on a chart that most framers have.
They also have a set of colored mounts you can choose from. You can place the piece of mount with the piece of frame on your work to make sure its as you like it.
3) Make sure you choose the frame and mount ONLY WITH THE ORIGINAL PIECE OF WORK. This may sound silly, but trying to imagine the artwork to choose the kind of frame you want may prove expensive as frames are available in many colors and different materials and finishes.
4) Make sure you ascertain the thickness of the frame along with the color- varying thicknesses change the impact of the artwork.
5) Once the framer calls you saying he has completed your framing, you must go and check if it is as you wanted. CHECK IT IN DAYLIGHT, so that any mistakes are easily visible.
6) Give the framer the deadline of a week sooner than you need it! This way, you have time to make changes if anything goes wrong.
7) ALWAY, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, give your work covered in plastic, so that the framer, if he is careless, cannot damage it by dropping paint, varnish etc on its surface.
8) Try and get to see what kind of work he has done earlier. Some framers make structures of colors of unusual requests, others don't.

Good luck!
